Learning Ruby on Rails to Start

I’ve decided among other things in the new year to learn Ruby on Rails. I am not a developer, though I know my way around an application and server. I know basic php, javascript, html, and pretend I know Ajax. I can work with Drupal, wordpress, and add on to something that is already built but I’ve tried to build something from scratch several times with no success.
So, I’ve decided I want to be able to know how to (even if its rudimentary) build, run, operate, and create a business/revenue model for a web application with nothing but a keyboard, mouse, computer, screen, phone, and a broadband internet service. So that basically means I will need to completely rely on people I know, free resources, open source software, relationships, and myself.
This is a process, and not necessarily a goal. What comes with the knowledge and successes or failures in this part time, side-endeavor will help me in my full time endeavors.
